Many artists will cringe when you show them their first pieces. And I get that same ick looking back at my first graphics from high school. 😅
Marketing work in high school consisted of DECA, class projects, and leadership roles. DECA (I know… I bring it up a lot) precipitated the majority of my graphic work. Also rough in the beginning were the designs for class projects (ft. the flyers for “Speachless” and the school store). But, the work for both improved greatly over the four years. For leadership, I was the president of the National Technical Honors Society as well as the team manager for my flag football team. As a senior, these two positions were always fun to create social media and meeting content for in a break from classwork.
DECA also gave me a wide range of experience in different areas of marketing (time to nerd out). For freshman year, I created a proposal for my own ride-share company, competing in the Integrated Marketing Campaign event for a service. Sophomore year, I developed a marketing campaign for Crown Rally and my dad’s affiliate organization with it. This was in the Sports and Entertainment Marketing Operations Research event. My junior year, I designed a large marketing and operation plan for my school store in the Business Services Operations Research event. Lastly, senior year, I created a talent acquisition plan for an Atlanta-based plumbing company in the Business Solutions Project. The last three out of all four years brought me to the international level.
Everyone always groaned at the sound of a new project but I got so excited because it meant that I got to go crazy on the presentation 🙂 And, you can call me a hoarder when it comes to Canva, because there are so many old projects from each class that I love going through on the rare occasion I make it to the bottom of the scroll. Maybe I’ll pull the trigger soon to free up some of that needed storage… who knows?! 😌
